'The media doesn’t just reflect the world—it shapes it.'
🗂️ WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Media influences how we see ourselves, each other, and the wider world. In an era of 24-hour news, TikTok trends, and online activism, understanding the media is not just valuable—it’s essential.
This A Level course helps students analyse how media messages are constructed and received. They’ll explore who controls media industries, how audiences respond, and how culture, politics, and technology shape the media landscape. Students also engage in practical production work—developing skills in planning, creating, and evaluating cross-media products.
Whether you're interested in journalism, advertising, film, or digital content creation, media studies builds the critical awareness and creative confidence to thrive in a media-saturated world.
🗂️ WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
In our small, live, online group sessions, students explore six key areas of study:
🎞️ Media Language – How meaning is constructed through technical and symbolic codes
🧍♀️ Representation – How people, places and issues are portrayed, and the impact of these portrayals
🏢 Media Industries – Ownership, production processes, funding, and regulation
🧑🤝🧑 Audiences – How media engages and influences diverse audience groups
🌍 Contexts – Historical, political, economic, cultural and social influences
🎬 Cross-Media Production – Planning and creating media products in response to a brief
Students will also develop critical thinking, independent research, media literacy, and practical production skills that extend far beyond the classroom.
