Frequently asked questions: Learning
Why do students need to have their cameras on?
Our classes are live and interactive. Having cameras on helps teachers check understanding, monitor engagement and provide effective support. It also helps create the friendly, discussion-based atmosphere that is central to our teaching approach.
How can a student who cannot have their camera on take an NEA course?
For courses with Non-Examined Assessments (NEAs), teachers must be able to communicate directly with students in order to authenticate their work and comply with examination regulations. We are committed to making reasonable adjustments wherever possible, but students must be able to engage directly with their teacher throughout the assessment process.
Can I watch a recording of a class?
No. To safeguard the privacy of our students and families, we do not share recordings in which students can be seen or heard. Where recordings are provided, they are intended solely for enrolled students as part of their course.
Why don’t you offer webinar-style classes?
We specialise in small-group, interactive learning rather than one-way presentations. This allows students to ask questions, participate in discussion and receive personalised feedback and support from their teacher.
Frequently asked questions: SEND and Access
How does Nexus Educate support students with SEND?
We are committed to creating an inclusive learning environment and making reasonable adjustments wherever possible. We recognise that every learner is different and encourage parents and carers to share relevant information before a course begins so that appropriate support can be planned.
Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive and accessible learning experience that enables every student to participate fully and achieve their potential.
Because our courses are live, interactive and discussion-based, students are expected to participate in lessons with their cameras on. This allows teachers to check understanding, monitor engagement and provide effective support. Whilst we are happy to discuss individual circumstances and reasonable adjustments, our courses may not be suitable for students who are unable to engage in this way.
For courses that include Non-Examined Assessment (NEA), students must also be willing to communicate directly with their teacher through tutorials and discussions about their work. Examination boards require teachers to authenticate coursework, and this is only possible when teachers can oversee and discuss the student’s work throughout the process.
How does Nexus Educate support exam access arrangements?
Exam boards are required to make reasonable adjustments for eligible students, such as extra time or alternative formats. Whilst applications are made through the examination centre, Nexus Educate teachers can provide evidence of a student’s normal way of working to support the process.
How does Nexus Educate support parents and carers with SEND?
We are committed to making our courses and communication as accessible as possible for all families. Parents and carers are encouraged to share any relevant information before a course begins so that we can make appropriate adjustments and provide support where needed.
Open communication helps us understand individual circumstances and ensure that families can engage confidently with our courses and services.
Frequently asked questions: Practical Matters
What do fees include?
Course fees include live lessons, learning materials, independent learning assignments, personalised feedback, revision resources, progress monitoring and ongoing support throughout the course. Where applicable, fees also cover coursework support, mock examinations, references and guidance with access arrangements. We believe in transparent pricing, with no hidden extras.
Can you mark and sign off my child’s coursework (NEA) if they are studying independently?
Unfortunately, no. Examination boards require teachers to confirm that NEA work is the student’s own and has been completed in accordance with their regulations. To do this responsibly, we must be involved throughout the process, from the initial planning stages through to the final submission.
For this reason, coursework support, marking and official authentication are only available to students enrolled on our full qualification courses, where teachers can monitor progress and provide appropriate guidance throughout the project.
Why don’t you open GCSE and A Level classes to younger students?
We believe students learn best alongside peers of a similar age and stage of development. Whilst we accept Year 9 students in some GCSE classes we do not run vertically aged groups and we do not accelerate students into older classes simply because they are academically able. Education is a journey, not a race, and we want every student to feel confident, comfortable and supported.
