The A Level English Language course (Edexcel, Course Code: 9EN0) offers a unique opportunity for home-educated students to examine the intricacies of language. This course includes three written exams and one coursework component:

 

✏️ Component 1: Language Variation (35%)

📖 2 hours 15 minutes – 60 marks

Section A: Individual Variation
Compare two contemporary texts, analysing audience, purpose, identity, and style

Section B: Variation Over Time
Compare historical texts and explore language change

 

✏️ Component 2: Child Language Acquisition (20%)

🧒 1 hour 15 minutes – 45 marks
Analyse unseen data (spoken or written) showing how children learn language, applying linguistic frameworks and theories

 

✏️ Component 3: Investigating Language (25%)

🔍 1 hour 45 minutes – 45 marks

Section A: Analyse unseen data from a set subtopic (e.g., gender, power, regional dialects)

Section B: Evaluate and reflect on an independent language investigation (guidance and support provided)

 

📝 Component 4: Coursework (NEA) (20%)

Two internally assessed pieces:

Original Writing (e.g., article, speech, blog post)

Commentary on language choices and techniques used

All coursework is supported with step-by-step guidance and individual tutorials.
